At the initiative of Tatevik Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, and with the support of the "Center for Agribusiness and Rural Development (CARD) Foundation" and funding from the "Austrian Development Agency (ADA)", a three-day workshop on veterinary system reform was held in Tsaghkadzor from 19 to 21 June 2026.
The workshop aimed to jointly develop recommendations and an action plan for improving Armenia's veterinary system, which will serve as a foundation for future sector reforms and the development of public policy.
The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, the Food Safety Inspection Body, the " Center for Agricultural Services" SNCO, the "Republican Veterinary, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services Center" SNCO, the "Armenian National Agrarian University", the "Veterinarians Association of Armenia", the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, vocational education and training (VET) institutions, laboratory service providers, development partner organizations, and the private sector.
During three days of intensive discussions, participants analyzed the current state of the veterinary sector, identified its key challenges, and developed recommendations to address them. The discussions covered the organization of veterinary services, human resource development, veterinary education and continuing professional development, laboratory capacity, digitalization of the sector, as well as the potential introduction of a veterinary licensing and certification system.
As a result of the collaborative work, participants developed a preliminary package of priority reform areas and actions that will contribute to establishing a modern, efficient, and sustainable veterinary system in Armenia.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the "Enhancement of the Animal Identification and Registration System in Armenia for Sustainable Agriculture" project, implemented by the "CARD Foundation" and funded by the "Austrian Development Agency" (ADA).
